Guide
Picking a fair winner comes down to four things: knowing your entry rule before you post, collecting every real comment, applying your duplicate rule consistently, and drawing at random instead of by hand. Here's how each step actually works.
Decide upfront whether one comment counts, whether tagging a friend counts as a separate entry, and whether someone can win more than once by commenting repeatedly. Posting the rule with the giveaway — not deciding it after entries are in — is what makes the draw defensible if anyone asks how it was picked.
Scrolling through comments by eye misses entries, especially past a few hundred, and there's no way for anyone else to check your work afterward. A tool that reads the post's actual comment list — see our Instagram Comment Picker — gives you the same entry pool every time, not whatever happened to be visible when you scrolled.
Someone commenting five times shouldn't quietly get five chances unless that's actually your rule. Apply whichever policy you chose in step 1 — one entry per person, one per comment, or every valid comment counted — to the whole list before drawing, not case by case.
A name picked by scrolling and stopping isn't random, and it's hard to prove it was fair even when it was. A cryptographically secure random draw removes that question entirely — every eligible entry has an equal, verifiable chance.
Announcing the winner live — rather than editing a screenshot after the fact — is what actually makes the process transparent to your audience. Keeping the campaign (entries, rule, and result) on record means you can point back to exactly how a winner was chosen if it's ever questioned.
You can, but it's neither random nor provably fair — there's no way to show anyone the full entry pool you actually chose from, and it's easy to unintentionally skip or favor comments.
There's no minimum — what matters is that the draw covers every comment that qualifies under the rule you posted, whether that's five entries or five thousand.
Sweeeply's Quick Draw does steps 2 through 5 in one flow: paste the post URL, set your duplicate rule and winner count, and the import, draw, and reveal happen together.
